There's a few other methods, but IMO, these are the easiest to pick up. The 3OP guide deserves a readthrough even if you don't plan to use it; it gives a good overview of how BLD is done.

Personally, I used to use 3OP corners and M2 edges.

At its simplest form, freestyle basically involves using the most efficient method for a particular case.

What was the environment like? My success used to be largely dependant on a relatively silent one.

While watching some of Yikai's BLD vids, I was like.. " Okay, I give up on BLD" until almost everyone got DNF's. I felt bad for all those who worked hard for that event.
BLD is not a guarantee event.

My BLD method is COCP 3 cycle corners and 3 cycle edges but without orientation... this is the TuRbo method. 3 cycle edges without orientation, for me, can even surpass the efficiency of M2 as long as you can execute your set up moves quick and by heart.

here.. try this
Setup: M' R2 U' R' U' R U R U R U' R M

others would solve this by orienting both UF and UL... but here's how I do it.
my buffer is UR. UR has to go to LU and LU has to go to FU and FU has to go UR.
what you want to do is set up the edges in a way that you can cycle them with a U perm with their correct orientation.

Solution: M' R' U R' U' R' U' R' U R U R2 M

This method has tons of potential !

what  I understand is you cancel out the orientation step by using set-up moves , making it into a known perm such as A or U perm then undo set-up. Am I right ? Thats cool
